Adam Essam Ayad, ادم عياد

15 years-old, from Dheisheh Refugee Camp (south of Bethlehem).

Design: Lahav Halevy

Adam, the only son of his mother, who raised him by herself since she divorced his father. Dropped out of school and started working for a bakery every day from 9 am until almost midnight, to support the family's livelihood.

On January 3rd, at 5 am, a military force raided the camp for a wanted person's arrest. In the clashes that ensued, boys threw stones and fire bombs at a military force, during its withdrawal. Adam was among them.

A sniper on a rooftop 73 meters away shot them. Many bullets. They started running away. A 13-year-old was injured. The sniper continued to shoot. Adam was hit in the back, near the heart. Shoot to kill.

Opening fire procedure allows shooting at those who have already retreated. Allows shooting in the back. The sniper himself was not within range of the stones, and was in an elevated post. He and his colleagues continued to shoot even when Adam fell. Even when paramedics tried to get closer to rescue the injured.

Adam carried a note in his pocket, the kind of notes that Palestinian minors carry. Kind of a will. The note read: "I had many dreams that I wanted to fulfill. But we live in a reality where this is impossible."

Adam's mother continues to prepare meals for him, with his favorite foods, from time to time.
