More than 40 years ago, Israel designated an area of 6,800 acres in the southern Hebron hills as a training zone for the Israeli Defense Forces. This decision was made despite the presence of individuals living mainly in ancient caves in the area. The Supreme Court of Israel upheld this ruling in May 2022. The fate of these individuals is uncertain, and they are facing the possibility of deportation and demolition of their homes. Yesterday I visited them – here are some pictures:
